Student arrested for setting fire at school

A 14-year-old student has been arrested and booked with arson, accused of setting a fire at N.P. Moss Preparatory School this morning.

Lafayette firefighters responded the Mudd Avenue school this morning at 8:45 this morning after receiving a report that a bathroom was on fire. When firefighters arrived, all students were evacuated to their designated locations.

The fire was inside a bathroom stall. It was extinguished by a Lafayette Police School Resource Officer, a fire spokesman said. 

The fire caused heavy smoke damage inside the bathroom. There was moderate fire damage to one of the stalls. The damage was limited to the bathroom,he said.  The adjacent classrooms did not sustain any damage.  No injuries were reported.

Fire investigators determined toilet paper inside the bathroom was set on fire.
