3-0 Cajuns prepare for Chanticleers Saturday

LAFAYETTE – Coming off its largest margin of victory in a Sun Belt Conference game in nearly two years, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns men’s basketball team returns to action on Saturday when it faces league foe Coastal Carolina at the Cajundome.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game can be heard in the Lafayette area on KHXT 107.9 FM and ESPN 1420 AM, and worldwide on the ESPN 1420 app. The game will also be streamed on RaginCajuns.com.

Louisiana (13-3, 3-0 SBC), the lone unbeaten team remaining in SBC action, recorded a 78-45 win over Appalachian State on Thursday behind a game-high 16 points from Frank Bartley. Bryce Washington posted his 33rd career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Ragin’ Cajuns 33-point victory equaled their largest since an 87-54 win at Georgia State on Jan. 29, 2016.

Coastal Carolina (7-9, 1-2 SBC) opened league play with a convincing 90-65 win over SBC preseason favorite UT Arlington on Dec. 29 before dropping games against Texas State and ULM. The Chanticleers tied a season-high with 23 turnovers against ULM.

• Louisiana looks to equal its best Sun Belt Conference start in four years when it entertains league foe Coastal Carolina.
• The meeting against Coastal Carolina is the first between the schools in Lafayette and the second since the Chanticleers joined the Sun Belt Conference.
• Starting point guards Marcus Stroman (Louisiana) and Jaylen Shaw (Coastal Carolina) both transferred to their respective schools from South Carolina.

• Zac Cuthbertson averages a team-high 16.5 points for Coastal with South Carolina transfer Jaylen Shaw averaging 16.0 points and a team-best 5.3 rebounds.
• Head coach Cliff Ellis began his Division I career at South Alabama (1975-84) and is currently fifth among active coaches in total career victories (818) behind Mike Krzyzewski (Duke), Jim Boeheim (Syracuse), Bob Huggins (West Virginia) and Roy Williams (North Carolina).

• Louisiana remains at home when it plays host to ULM on Saturday (Jan. 13) at 7 p.m. at the Cajundome. The game against the Warhawks is billed as the Reunion Game with many former Ragin’ Cajuns players and coaches expected to be in attendance.
