DeQuince Brown, girlfriend of Dejuan Guillory, has been charged again in connection with a July 2017 incident that left Guillory dead.

After State Police investigated the incident, they arrested Brown and booked her with attempted first-degree murder of a police officer. A bill of information was filed against her on that charge, but she was never arraigned.

An Evangeline Parish grand jury already has decided the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's deputy who shot Guillory will not be charged.

Now a new bill of information has been filed against Brown on charges of felony battery of an officer, aggravated assault on a peace officer and attempt to disarm a peace officer. She was arraigned today on those new charges, entering the usual plea of not guilty. A trial date was set in May.

“After reviewing the State Police investigation, the elements of these crimes most appropriately for the facts of what the investigation revealed,” Evangeline Parish District Attorney Trent Brignac said of the new charges.

Guillory's family has said they feel his killing was not justified, and have filed a federal lawsuit against the deputy and the sheriff's office.

State Police did not arrest the deputy, and say their investigation revealed that Guillory and Brown allegedly tried to take the deputy's gun and beat him prior to the shooting. State Police filed an affidavit in the case which states that Brown allegedly admitted to jumping on the deputy, biting him and attempting to take his gun.

The deputy told state police that Guillory hit him in the head, causing him to "see stars" and possibly lose consciousness for a minute. He said Brown jumped on his back while he was trying to handcuff Guillory and tried to take his gun.
