Cajuns host Appalachian State in SBC opener

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball team returns home to the Cajundome on Thursday when it faces Appalachian State in an early battle between two of the three remaining unbeaten teams in league play.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m., and will follow the women's game between Louisiana and App State that tips off at 5 p.m. The game can be heard in the Lafayette area on KHXT 107.9 FM and ESPN 1420 AM, and worldwide on the ESPN 1420 app. The game will also be streamed on RaginCajuns.com.
Louisiana (12-3, 2-0 SBC) claimed a pair of victories on the road last weekend, defeating Little Rock and Arkansas State. The Ragin' Cajuns, playing at home for the first time since Dec. 19, face App State (7-8, 2-0 SBC) in the first of a three-game homestand that includes SBC contests against Coastal Carolina (Jan. 6) and ULM (Jan. 13).
App State opened SBC play with wins at home over Texas State (66-62) and preseason favorite UT Arlington (80-76).

• Two of the Sun Belt Conference's three unbeaten teams during the first weekend of league play face off tonight as Louisiana hosts Appalachian State.
• Louisiana (85.9 points per game) and Appalachian State (82.0 ppg.) are the top two scoring offenses in the Sun Belt Conference.
Bryce Washington continues his climb up the Louisiana scoring charts with 1,121 points. His 12 points at Arkansas State moved him past former Ragin' Cajuns standout Tony Moore (1981-86) for 34th-place on the school's all-time list.
• Washington is nine points shy of tying Brad Boyd (2000-04) for 33rd-place on the Ragin' Cajuns all-time scoring list.
• Washington is fourth among active Division I players in total rebounds (901) and ninth in career double-doubles (32).
• In the past three games, Louisiana has shot 62-for-72 (.861) from the free throw line. The Ragin' Cajuns were 22-for-23 at Clemson on Dec. 22, 20-for-24 in the SBC opener at Little Rock on Dec. 29 and 20-for-25 at Arkansas State.
Marcus Stroman's 14 points and 10 assists at Arkansas State marked the first double-double of his career.
• Louisiana enters tonight's game as the Sun Belt Conference leaders in scoring offense, scoring margin (+12.2), free throw percentage (.740), assists (18.4) and assist/turnover ratio (1.3).

• Freshman Justin Forrest averages 15.3 points for the Mountaineers with Isaac Johnson ranking fourth in the SBC with 8.3 rebounds per game.
• Louisiana remains at home when it plays host to Coastal Carolina on Saturday (Jan. 6) in a 7 p.m. contest at the Cajundome. The game will mark the Chanticleers first trip to the Cajundome.
