Two people found dead in homes in Opelousas identified

UPDATE: Opelousas Police say they have identified the two people found dead in their homes Wednesday afternoon.

A spokeswoman with the Opelousas Police department says the woman found in a home on Academy Street has been identified as 57-year-old Barbara Savoy. The man found dead in a home on Mayer Street has been identified as 71-year-old Bernell Thomas. 

A cause of death has still not been determined, but foul play is not a factor in either death.

Police are investigating the deaths of a man and woman found in two homes in the City of Opelousas. 

A woman was found dead in a house on Academy Street in Opelousas. The second body, that of a man, was found in a home on Mayer Street. 

No cause of death has been determined as of yet for either person; In regards to the incident on Academy Street, police would only say that it was very cold in the home when they arrived, and the heat was not on. 

No foul play is suspected in either case.

The spokeswoman says details are limited at this time and first responders are waiting on the coroner. 

KATC has a crew en route and will have more information as it becomes available.
