UPDATE: Standoff scene cleared in Franklin

UPDATE: The St. Mary Sheriff's Office says that the scene is now clear in a Franklin neighborhood. The area is safe and secured.

Police are on the scene of a standoff in a Franklin neighborhood, trying to make contact with a subject inside a residence.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff's deputies were called to assist Franklin Police who were responding to a report of a disturbance in the 200 block of Cedar Street in Franklin Wednesday afternoon, according to the sheriff's office Facebook page. 

Deputies are working to make contact with a man who went into a residence as police responded to the call. Deputies are working to make contact to check on on the subjects well being. 

Residents in the area are advised to stay indoors until the situation is resolved. There is no threat or danger to the community, said  Traci Landry, spokeswoman for the sheriff's office.
