Jackets and coats have popped up in Parc Sans Souci in Lafayette, each with a message about keeping warm in the freezing weather.

A few children spent the afternoon placing jackets and coats around light poles and benches in the park. Shelly Lovas on Facebook says the group, made up of her daughter and two friends, hopes to help the homeless population of the city stay warm as the weather continues to remain at freezing temperatures.

"I thought that'd be a great idea because I saw some girls online do it so I thought that'd be a great idea for us. We hoped that a few people who need them would get them," said Olivia Lovas, one of the 10-year-old girls who spearheaded the project.

Grace Herpin, Olivia Lovas and Sidney Miller put the jackets out hoping it would help make someone's day a little warmer. After putting the sweaters out Tuesday morning, they came back a few hours later they were shocked

"It's kind of amazing that people like get the jackets because its so cold and they need them," said Miller.

Each jacket placed in the park was donated by generous people: friends and family of the children. A note is placed on every coat and jacket letting everyone know that these items are for those who need it most. "I am not lost. If you find yourself stuck in the cold, take me to keep you warm.
