A man arrested Tuesday in connection with the death of a five-month-old baby has been arrested before.

KATC Investigates looked into the background of Ted Arceneaux, 20, of Duson, who was booked today with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his son at a Duson home today. Arceneaux allegedly admitted to police that he hurt the child because he wouldn't stop crying.

KATC Investigates has learned that Arceneaux was arrested last year for attempted murder in connection with an attack on a Scott woman named Aaliyah Washington.

He was indicted on charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property and simple burglary in connection with a May 2016 incident at Washington's Domingue Street home, court records show.

The Lafayette Parish District Attorney's Office allowed him to plead guilty to the aggravated criminal damage to property charge in October 2017. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with all but one year suspended. He was also given credit for time served since he was arrested in December 2016, meaning he was released in late November 2017.

As of late Tuesday, KATC has been unable to determine the relationship between Washington and Arceneaux.

At the time of his December 2016 arrest, Scott Police told KATC that Arceneaux was accused of pulling a gun and trying to shoot someone on Domingue Street.

The gun didn't fire, and Arceneaux ran away, but allegedly came back and tried to fight with the people at the house, the spokesman said in December 2016. That's when police caught him.

Investigators found two guns at Arceneaux's home, and then discovered that Arceneaux allegedly had shot at someone else earlier in the day. That person didn't call police because they were afraid of Arceneaux, the spokesman said.

Also during the search, investigators found some stolen property that they believe is related to some recent vehicle burglaries in Scott.

Today's incident began around 9 a.m.Tuesday morning when Duson Police were called to a home on Kevin Street in Duson. A baby was unresponsive. Police officers tried to do CPR on the child, but weren't able to revive him.

Duson Police called in the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office to investigate, because the sheriff has greater resources. During the investigation, the sheriff's detectives determined that the child’s injuries were greater than that of an accident and had reason to believe that he died as the result of this trauma.

Investigators interviewed various persons and were able to obtain a statement from the father of the child allegedly admitting to using force against the child when he would not stop crying this morning.

"It is our belief that the result of these injuries led to the child’s death," Sheriff KP Gibson said.

The investigation is continuing.
