A man from Donner is dead after crashing his motorcycle in Calcasieu Parish last night.

The accident happened about 9 p.m. Monday on La. 27 near Carlyss, a spokesman for Louisiana Troop D said.

A 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by Daniel Shavor, 48, of Donner, was southbound on the highway, failed to negotiate a curve and lost control of the bike. He was ejected from the motorcycle, the spokesman said.

Shavor, who was the sole occupant of the motorcycle, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office.  At this time it is unknown if he was wearing a helmet.

A toxicology sample was obtained from Shavor and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.  The crash remains under investigation.

The Louisiana State Police offers basic, intermediate, and advanced motorcycle safety training courses.  More information is available online here or by calling 225-658-7255.

This is the first fatal crash investigated by the Louisiana State Police statewide in 2018.
