First responders competing in blood-donation event

Posted: Updated:

The United Blood Services will be holding a "Sirens for Life" blood drive from Jan. 3-5 as a competition between first responder groups to donate the most blood.

Police, EMS, and fire groups from across Lafayette Parish are participating in the blood drive and are asking for the public's participation in helping them reach their goal and save a life in 2018.

Those interested in supporting the first responders can visit the United Blood Service Center located at 1503 Bertrand Drive and donate blood starting Jan. 3. The drive lasts until Friday. Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.

Donors can choose which department they would like their donation to support upon arriving to give blood.
