Kaplan family loses home to fire

Kaplan, La. -

A Kaplan family is without a home on the first day of the year following a fire this morning. 

Kaplan and Leleux firefighters responded to the fire in the 200 block of N Maraist Street in Kaplan around 9 a.m. 

A family member says everyone was able to exit the home safely, but the house is a total loss.

Fire investigators believe the cause of the fire to be electrical.

The family is now in need of help. A person close to the family has set up a GoFundMe account. Click here if you would like to make a donation. 

If you would like to drop off donations, you may do so at Meaux Lumber Store, located at 402 E 11th St, Kaplan, LA 70548. The family's last name is Richard. 

Women's: 16/18-sized pants, 2XL-sized shirt size, 7-sized shoe
Men's: 33x32-sized pants, 30x30-sized pants, medium and large-sized shirts, 9 & 9 1/2-sized shoes
