Lafayette hospitals welcome 2018 New Year's Day babies

Two Lafayette hospitals welcomed their 2018 New Year's Day babies.

Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC) welcomed their first baby of 2018.  A baby boy, Tien Nguyen, arrived at 3:52 a.m. to mom Dai Nguyen and her husband. Tien weighed 6 pounds and two ounces and measured 19 inches. He is Dai's second child.

The couple lives in Duson and received a gift pack from LGMC for having the first baby of the new year.

Four minutes later, Women's and Children's Hosptial welcomed their first baby, Ju'Wan Daigre. The healthy baby boy was born to John Daigre and Beverly Carino.

Baby Ju'wan was born seven pounds and four ounces. He was 18 1/4 inches long. He made his arrival at 3:56 a.m.

"It's real special because I actually had to get an emergency C- Section with him, so I really feel blessed to have him," Carino said.

The parents call baby Ja'wan a miracle. He was born two weeks early and almost didn't make it through delivery.

"We had to get an emergency C-Section and so that was real scary because I thought it was going to be a regular birth. He almost didn't make it, his heart rate kept dropping so they had to rush me in to get the C -section," Carino said.

The couple said they are thankful to God for being gracious and giving them their son.

"I feel blessed, Ju'wan actually means God is gracious," Carino said.

Even after a complicated delivery, Carino said she advised all moms to keep the faith and always pray.

" I would say just for people to keep their faith because I remember when I thought I was going to lose him. I had to be strong and just keep the faith, because he's a blessing to us," Carino said.
