Bitter cold moves in for 2018

Posted: Updated:

If you've been able to avoid either the outdoors or the internet for the last several days then let me be the first one to tell you it's cold, very cold, not just in places it's supposed to be cold either but all across the deep south.

A well advertised burst of Arctic air has moved in to the region and will dominate the forecast for the remainder of the week as it will be quite some time before we get a warmer air mass to move back into Acadiana.

The new year has started with a wind chill in the single digits and temperatures that even with the sunshine won't get much warmer then freezing Monday afternoon.

Winds will be strong and gusty coming in from the north around 15-20 mph and gusting at times closer to 25-30 mph, which will keep the wind chill in the teens and twenties all day long.

The next several night will be hard freezes for Acadiana so hopefully pipes and plants have already been taken care of as we will fall below freezing late afternoon and not rise above it until sometime on Tuesday.

So stay bundled up and keep your eyes on the weekend when it will finally warm up a little again.
