ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. -

A man from Breaux Bridge is dead after losing control of his vehicle along a highway in St. Martin Parish this morning.

Shortly after 7:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a single-vehicle crash on Hwy. 347, near Albert Leblanc Road.

The crash claimed the life of 22-year-old Andre Goodyear of Breaux Bridge.

Troopers say Goodyear was driving south on Hwy. 347 when, for unknown reasons, he failed to negotiate a left curve and traveled off the right side of the road. As a result, the vehicle entered a ditch, struck a culvert and overturned.

Goodyear was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to a state police spokesman. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Martin Parish Coroner.

Troopers say it is unknown if impairment is a factor, but routine toxicology samples are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.
