Mark's Towing offers free rides on New Year's Eve

New Iberia, La. -

Chances are your New Years Eve plans probably sound a little like this: "We'll have the countdown. We'll have a DJ. We're going to be throwing out glow sticks, party favors, and it'll be a lot of fun!" That's what Elizabeth "Zob" Munnerlyn, who owns Nila's Bourbon Hall in New Iberia says. She's looking forward to the bar's New Year's Eve party.

Of course, what nobody plans on is a car wreck, which is often caused by drunk drivers every holiday season. The good news is that there are ways to prevent it.

"We like to encourage people ahead of time that you know you're coming out to have a good time, so please get a designated driver," says Munnerlyn.

If you don't have a friend or family member wanting to take on the role of designated driver, people, like Mark Dressel, who owns Mark's Towing, are happy to help.

"We're offering people a ride where we'll pick up their car for free, and we'll bring them back to their house. Or if you want to go to a bar by yourself or if you want to go in a group and you need a ride, we'll pick you up in a van, and we'll bring you home," says Dressel.

Dressel's services for the weekend are completely free. Mark's Towing has been doing this every year for nearly two decades, and Dressel says he wishes more people would take advantage.

"I just wish more people would call because we always get that tragic wreck where that person could have called and we could have brought them home and it makes you feel bad because we could have saved them or saved somebody else," says Dressel.

So, while you're thinking about what to wear and where to go, don't forget to think ahead for a safe trip home.
