Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon, his deputies and a local contractor were able to help out a resident today.

The story started with a call by a resident of Bayou L'Ourse, who wanted to speak to a deputy about a situation, a spokeswoman said.

A deputy went by and noticed the disabled gentleman to be living in a broken down mobile home. It was in such bad shape it wasn't fit for humans to live in, she said. The deputy called the Sheriff and told him what was going on. Some friends had donated a mobile home to the man, but he didn't have a way to move into the new place. she said.

The sheriff called Jeremy Landry, president of LA Contractors, and today Landry and some of his employees moved the man to his new home. The sheriff made a trip to the grocery store to stock the new home with food and necessities.

The freezing weather that is forecasted was a concern, she said.

"Please lend a hand when you can as there is always someone who is in dire need of help," she said.
