United Blood Services is asking for donors to take a pledge to become a "First Blood Responder" in 2018.

First Blood Responders will pledge to make at least three donations throughout 2018 to help ensure that blood supplies are readily available at hospitals before emergencies and disasters require them. UBS says that if each donor donates at least three times a year, the results will include stable blood supplies and more lives saved.

Donors can make their pledge at pledgetosave.com and donate blood at the center located at 1503 Bertrand Drive. Make an appointment to donate at bloodhero.com or call 877-827-4376. Walk-ins are welcome.

Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 and 17 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian.
