Ready or not here it comes! Mardi Gras is just around the corner and New Iberia is already gearing up.

"People are still coming out of holiday mode and now they're going straight into Mardi Gras mode. We're the first Mardi Gras parade of the season, last year and this year again so we start off the Mardi Gras season in all of Acadiana," says Patrick Norris, President of the Bayou Mardi Gras Association.

The parade is coming up in just two weeks and there's lots to get done.

"We're taking float names for float reservations. We're putting the whole line up together and getting queens, bands. We've got our Grand Marshall which is going to be Governor Kathleen Blanco," says Norris.

Plus there are some surprises in store this year.

"We've got something we're working on but I can't tell you yet! You got to come out and see it," says Norris.

The largest stretch of the parade route passes through New Iberia's Main Street. Business owners say they're excited too.

"I grew up here so of course I feel that way but I'm glad they're still going on with the parade here. Anytime they have anything downtown where it brings a lot of people out of course the business is going to be better," says Rebecca Holleman who owns Beau Soleil Café on Main Street.

"Come early stay late stay and have a few drinks at the taverns after or have a good dinner at the restaurants. Come and see us," says Norris.

Floats are available for the parade if you are part of a group, business or Mardi Gras crew and would like to join.

For more information you can visit the official Bayou Mardi Gras Association website or call their office at Norris International.
