Colder weather ushers in the New Year

Posted: Updated:

Cold is coming to Acadiana, and not Louisiana cold either, real bone-chilling cold; before we're there, however, we've got to wrap up the last remaining days of 2017.

Skies will slowly clear through the night on Thursday, which hopefully will lead to some more sunshine on Friday and give us a break from the grey we've had over the last few days.

Temperatures will start a hair above freezing early in the morning and while a solid ten degrees warmer then Thursday it will still be an overall cool pattern with us to wrap up the work week.

The weekend will usher in a return of the cloud cover although temperatures will continue to warm on Saturday with mid to upper 50s expected as the high, and that will likely be the last time "warm" will be mentioned in the forecast.

Front will move in on New Year's Eve with another chilly, dreary day culminating in showers moving through at night when everyone is heading out to usher in the new year.

This is when temperatures plummet Monday will be cold and misty with skies clearing Monday night and temperatures falling into the 20s with wind chills likely down in the teens.

Once this kind of cold sets in it will linger through the majority of next week.
