Coaching changes at UL cap off our three defining moments of sports here in Acadiana during 2017.

Two of the school's most successful programs landed two new faces.

Billy Napier took UL's football vacancy a month after the Cajuns tapped Gerry Glasco as it's next head softball coach.

In different ways, both Gerry Glasco and Billy Napier replace coaches whose impact will be felt for years.

Former softball coach Michael Lotief won 80 percent of his games, more than 700 in total.

But his cajun tenure fell apart amid verbal and physical abuse allegations that eventually led to his firing in November

Lotief's players have stood by his side, and while some have transferred from the program, most join Glasco in the Cajun's next chapter.

On the gridiron, Mark Hudspeth's dismissal from Louisiana came after 7 seasons.

Hudspeth led UL to five bowl games including the program's first ever back in 2011.

After three straight losing seasons, the Cajuns moved in a different direction.

Last week athletic director Bryan Maggard introduced former Arizona State offensive coordinator Billy Napier as the program's 26th head coach.

Athletic director Bryan Maggard was hired in 2017. In 10 months on the job he's made his mark replacing two of it's most successful coaches in Michael Lotief and Mark Hudspeth. How will these moves play out? We'll find out in 2018.

It's been a wild ride. What will the new year bring us? We'll begin finding out in a couple of days.
