Kennedy: Infrastructure, healthcare reform top priorities for 2018

Posted: Updated:

U.S. Senator John Kennedy says tax cuts and regulation rollbacks marked a successful year for Congress and the Trump administration.

Kennedy says Congress is expecting President Trump's infrastructure plan right after the holidays.

"I'm anxious to see how he is going to propose to pay for it. I personally don't wanna just see us borrow more money," Kennedy said.

Kennedy says the Congressional effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act was a failure. But he says Congress will try again to reform the healthcare system in 2018.

The senator says he wants to explore segregating insurance pools between healthy people and those with chronic conditions, giving the latter more options and more concentrated care.

"I mean, it is not going to be inexpensive, but I think if we aggressively manage the care, it can be done. It can be done much less expensively than it's being done now," Kennedy said.

Congress reconvenes on Jan. 3.
