Roadway clear after 18-wheeler fire on I-10 West near Egan

The 18-wheeler, which caught fire this afternoon on I-10 West near Egan, has now been removed. Congestion was minimal at around 3 p.m., but DOTD reports that traffic in the area has cleared. 

No one was injured when the vehicle caught fire. State Police arrived and found the driver outside the vehicle. Traffic was backed up for some time this afternoon as motorists passed the scene. Above is a video of the vehicle fire and the aftermath.

One lane of I-10 West is closed after state police say an 18-wheeler caught fire at mile marker 73 near Egan. Congestion has reached 4 miles in length. 

The vehicle is situated on the shoulder of the roadway and state police say there are no reports of injuries due to the fire. Only one person was in the vehicle at the time of the fire. Troopers say that when they arrived that person was standing on the side of the roadway. 

Crews say the fire is out and that they are working to remove the vehicle. Troopers say that work should be completed within the next hour.
