Year end review of I-10 congestion

Posted: Updated:

For most of 2017, drivers traveling along I-10 have experienced congestion, accidents, construction and often times longer commutes than normal.

The I-10 widening project will eventually make traveling down the interstate easier, but the process of widening the bridge has not been easy for drivers this year.

Many business owners have been worried about their sales because of construction blocking roadways and entrances to their business.

Governor John Bel Edwards said there is no better time than now to do this project, which is long overdue. There has not been any construction done to the I-10 bridge in over 40 years.

Aside from construction, there has also been an increase in accidents along I-10 this year. Some from the construction itself, and others stemming from drunk and impaired drivers, to name a few.

The alternate route many drivers have learned to take is highway 90, which has been a detour this year during some of the closings on I-10 lasting up to nine hours.

The I-10 construction project is still in the works and the first eight months will be complete at the end of the year.
