A Cajun Kris Kringle is getting some attention over in Abbeville.
KATC's Josh Meny went to Abbeville to get the scoop.
Francis Duhon Sr. has been dressing up as Cajun Santa since the late 1970's when his kids were children, but he says this is the first year he's sat in a boat in his yard dressed in Santa waving at people driving by.
"We were passing down the road in our vehicle, and we were stopping at a stop sign, and I hear someone hollering ho, ho, ho, - Merry Christmas," explained Erath resident & mom, Nicole Steen
Steen says that Duhon told her that seeing the smiles on children's faces was priceless, so she returned the favor by getting Duhon's Cajun Santa persona on television and online. That's why you're seeing and reading this now.
Duhon is really into Christmas. He's permanently painted the hub caps of his truck red, and he loves being Cajun Santa because of the various, mostly joyful reactions, he sees from passerbys.
"Ohhh, Merry Christmas! Hahaha! They be blowin me kisses! Ho ho ho," exclaimed Duhon
"It kinda warms your heart, and it brings a smile to everybody's face. And, as I was talking with him, I've seen other cars pass, and these kids faces light up and they say, look it's santa - it's santa," explained Steen
Duhon says one important message he would like to impart; is for the community to find peace from all the violence.
