Murder victim's family looking for answers one year later

Posted: Updated:

Monday night, family and friends gathered at a candlelight vigil for Reynell Lockett, whose murder is still unsolved after a year of investigation.

The man who Lockett's family thinks is responsible is the same man wanted for questioning by police, yet he's nowhere to be found.

One year after her body was found in a car near a canal off of Highway 90, Reynell Lockett's loved ones are no closer to knowing what happened.

"It's been a year now and it's been a long hard year," said Lockett's sister, Aline Lockett.

"She last left with her ex-husband Russell Richard Jr, and he is still missing," said Renaud Richard, Lockett's son.

Her family thinks he might have been involved in the murder.

"Reynell was in an abusive relationship most of her life since she had known Russell Richard Jr.," said Aline Lockett.

Now the Sheriff's Department is asking again to talk to Richard.

Lockett's family plus her ex's mom all believe he is alive and in the area, and they have a message for him.

"We know you're in the surrounding areas just turn yourself in and tell the St. Mary Parish Sheriff what happened," said Renaud Richard.

"Whoever did it, if it's my son, turn yourself in," said Marva Richard, the mother of Russell Richard Jr.
