Cajuns Host Southeastern in Final Non-Conference Home Contest

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns men’s basketball team looks to continue on its best start to the season in over 20 years when it faces Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday in the final home non-conference game of the season at the Cajundome.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on RaginCajuns.com and can heard in the Lafayette area on KHXT 107.9-FM and ESPN 1420 AM, along with on the ESPN 1420 app. 

Louisiana (9-2), which has won its last six games, wraps up a six-game stint against in-state competition when it faces SLU (6-5) for the first time since the 1984 Bayou Classic at Blackham Coliseum. 

The Cajuns 9-2 start equals the best start since the 1993-94 season when Louisiana opened with an 11-2 record enroute to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship and berth in the NCAA Championships.  

In its last game, Louisiana earned an 87-65 win over New Orleans last Saturday at the Cajundome behind a team-high 21 points from JaKeenan Gant with Frank Bartley scoring all 19 of his points in the second half.

• Louisiana and Southeastern Louisiana renew their hardwood rivalry as the schools meet for the first time since the 1984-85 season.
• The schools last met in the 1984 Bayou Classic at Blackham Coliseum with the Lions claiming an 83-80 victory on Dec. 15, 1984.

• Bryce Washington continues his climb up the Louisiana scoring charts with 1,076 points. With 12 points against New Orleans on Saturday, Washington moved past both Randell Daigle (2007-11) for 37th-place on the Ragin’ Cajuns scoring list and Bryant Mbamalu (2010-14) for 36th. 
• The Cajuns have won 15 straight games against in-state schools since a 91-79 loss at Louisiana Tech on Dec. 12, 2015.
• Louisiana is 10-2 overall in games in the month of December during the past two seasons. 
• The Ragin’ Cajuns have won 12 straight non-conference home games dating back to March 23, 2016 (UC Irvine) in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. During the regular-season, Louisiana has won 28 straight non-conference games at home dating back to Dec. 18, 2012 (vs. Robert Morris).

• SLU is 3-4 in games played away from the University Center this season with road wins at Kent State and Samford, along with a neutral site victory over Mississippi Valley.
• Louisiana will wrap up its non-conference schedule on Friday when it travels to face ACC member Clemson in a 3 p.m. (EST) contest at Littlejohn Coliseum. The Ragin’ Cajuns open Sun Belt Conference play against Little Rock (Dec. 29) and Arkansas State (Dec. 31) before hosting Appalachian State on Jan. 4.
