Judge Suzanne de Mahy was sworn in as a 16th Judicial District Judge Friday, taking over the bench from which her father retired. 

de Mahy was elected without opposition in July to finish her father's term. She was formally sworn in Friday evening in St. Martinville. Administering the oath was retired U.S. District Judge Richard T. Haik. Present also were Korey Kimball, her husband, Judge Paul de Mahy, her father, and Marilyn de Mahy, her mother. 

Retired Judge Paul de Mahy presided over the half-hour ceremony.  Attorney, Shannon Fay Borghardt, opened the ceremony with introductions of judges and other public officials in attendance.  Cecelia “Beanie” Bonin, 16th Judicial District Chief Public Defender, led an invocation and then the Pledge of Allegiance was led by St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Deputy José Alexander.  The Administration of the Oath was presented by Retired Judge “Dicky” Haik.  Retired Judge Paul de Mahy and Korey Kimball presented Judge Suzanne de Mahy with the robe of office and gavel. 

Judge Suzanne de Mahy grew up in St. Martinville, Louisiana and currently resides in New Iberia with her husband Korey Kimball. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University and earned a Juris Doctor from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law. After law school, Judge Suzanne de May began her legal career as a public defender in Iberia Parish. Prior to her election she worked with the Public Defender’s Offices in both the 16th Judicial District and the 15th Judicial District.  She also maintained a private practice assisting with the legal needs of our community.

Judge Suzanne de Mahy is currently serving in the 16th Judicial District Court, Division B. Her Judicial Administrative Assistant is Patti Boutte of Loreauville.
