Just who is Billy Napier?

Posted: Updated:

Billy Napier may be new to Louisiana but his coaching career has had southern ties since the beginning.

Napier began his coaching career in 2005 at South Carolina State. In 2009, Napier became the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Clemson under Dabo Swinney.

Perhaps one of the biggest influences on Napier's coaching career is none other than Nick Saban.  Napier served as an offensive analyst for the Crimson Tide's national championship season in 2011, before heading to Colorado State to serve as an assistant head coach in 2012.

Napier returned to Tuscaloosa in 2013 as Alabama's wide receiver's coach -- winning a second national title in 2015.

After his first -- and only -- season at Arizona State, the Sun Devils new head coach Herm Edwards said of Napier; "Billy's experiences while working on some of the top coaching staffs in college football will be invaluable as we move Sun Devil football forward.''

It won't be happening in Tempe but Napier will attempt to do just that here in Lafayette.
