Over 5,000 individuals could be at risk for compromised information after a laptop owned by LSU was stolen from an employee.

According to WBRZ, the university says the laptop contained the names, date of birth, and social security numbers of 5,5000 people. It may have also contained credit card information for some individuals.

LSU told WBRZ that there is no information on whether this information has been accessed or misused as the laptop was password protected.

It is unclear whether the information on the laptop was for students or employees of the university. Those affected will receive letters on the incident.
