The United States Coast Guard says they responded to a grounded barge on the Intracoastal Waterway near Houma on Tuesday night.
The Coast Guard received the report that a barge of an uninspected towing vessel had allided with a concrete barrier on the Intracoastal Waterway near mile marker 57.5. Six barges broke free due to the collision.
The waterway was closed in the vicinity for barge retrieval. At around 12 am the Coast Guard indicated that three of the six barges were secured.
The Marine Safety Unit in Houma was dispatched to investigate the incident and a boat crew out of Morgan City assisted with traffic on the waterway.
There were no reports of pollution or injuries. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
