People in Kaplan excited for first ever Christmas parade

Posted: Updated:

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Kaplan with their first ever Christmas parade.

Lights, candy, and lots of beads, Kaplan residents say this inaugural parade is something they've waited for, for a long time.

"I think the community's been needing this for a while you know the kids want to see Santa Clause and want to be able to come and enjoy things that the other cities offer and now that we have it here I think it's a great idea what they did," said one woman who was enjoying the parade with her kids.

With more than 40 floats, some people said they enjoyed this parade with their kids more than Mardi Gras.

"It's exciting for the kids to finally have something in our community that they can enjoy," said another mother, Heather Theal.

"It's nice to have the whole town to get together for a big Christmas parade to celebrate the holiday that we all love," said Reagan smith, a teenager who was enjoying the night with her friend.

Families bundled up and enjoyed the floats, or at least, trucks filled with people tossing goodies along the route.

"Super excited it's the first ever and you know it's something to be excited for fun for the whole families from the grandmother all the way to the babies," said Nakia Singeal, who was there with her daughter and niece. They pair were running along the route, excited to be catching candy and prizes.

Even the jolly ol' big guy came through on a fire truck.

Also at the parade tonight, one lucky person won a brand new car as part of a raffle drawing. The raffle raised more than $86,000. All of that money will go directly to the Vermilion Parish school board.
