The Evangeline Parish District Attorney has decided he won't meet with the family of Dejuan Guillory today.

In a statement released today, District Attorney Brent Brignac's Office said that they had planned to meet with Guillory's family today but can't do that now.

Guillory was shot and killed in July by an Evangeline Parish Sheriff's deputy. State Police investigated the shooting and arrested Guillory's girlfriend, booking her with attempted first-degree murder of a police officer. State Police completed their investigation in November, and turned over their findings to Brignac's office.

Guillory's family, who have been very vocal in denying that Guillory did anything wrong, were scheduled to meet with prosecutors last week, but that meeting didn't happen. Now, Brignac's office said no meeting will happen.

Here's the full text of the statement released by the DA today:

The District Attorney’s Office is ethically limited to what information can be released to the public in a pending matter.  The purpose for this is to avoid possibly influencing or prejudicing a potential jury.  With regard to the death of Dejean Guillory, after reviewing the State Police investigation, we contacted the family through their attorney and extended the courtesy of meeting privately in an effort to provide some information to them before it is made public.  This meeting was never cancelled, simply rescheduled from Wednesday to the following Monday.  Recent events have raised the concern that any information provided may be made public before the legal process can take its course.  Accordingly, in an effort to respect our legal procedure and our ethical obligations there will be no meeting on Monday.
