STARKS, La. -

A Texas man is dead after being struck by a vehicle overnight while walking on LA 12 in the community of Starks.

At 2:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to the fatal accident on the highway near Old River Road about 4 ½ miles east of the Texas state line.

Troopers say investigation revealed 60-year-old Saul Zamarripa Ramirez, of Ennis, Texas, was struck by a pickup truck as he walked in the westbound lane of travel. Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner's Office.

The driver of the truck was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. Troopers say the driver voluntarily submitted to a breathalyzer test, which he passed.

The crash remains under investigation.
