UPDATE: As of 4:30 p.m., Cleco had restored power to roughly 80 percent of customers following a wintry mix of ice and snow that disrupted power to over 16,000 customers across its service territory.

“Unless road conditions become unsafe, Cleco crews will continue to work through the night to restore power to our customers,” said James Lass, manager of distribution operations and emergency management.  “Our hope is to have power restored to all customers tonight, but there is a chance that dropping temperatures could cause wet roads to freeze making them unsafe and impassable leaving some customers in St. Tammany and Washington parishes without power through the night.”

Here are the remaining outages:

“We ask that our customers with medical needs and small children make arrangements for tonight in the event we are unable to restore power to all customers,” said Lass.

Cleco thanks its customers for their patience and reminds them to be aware of possible downed lines. Stay away from low-hanging or downed lines. Call Cleco or 911 to report an unsafe situation with electricity.

Crews are working to restore power to 14,000 Cleco customers affected by Winter Storm Benji which continues to move across Louisiana bringing snow and icy conditions.

"At this time, we are not seeing a lot of damage to poles and lines," said James Lass, general manager of distribution operations and emergency management.  "The main issue appears to be heavy, snow- and ice-laden tree limbs sagging, and in some instances, falling, into power lines.  However, we are still assessing the damage."

Parish Customers Affected:

Acadia - 22
Allen - 260
Avoyelles - 6,340
Evangeline - 1,845
Iberia - 1,439
Jefferson Davis -  <5
LaSalle - 58
Rapides - 934
St. Landry - <5
St. Martin - 58
St. Mary - 1,600
St. Tammany - 877
Washington - 455

"Other obstacles our crews are facing include poor road conditions, and in some cases, road closures," said Lass.  "Rest assured that Cleco has the crews, materials, and equipment ready to restore power to customers once the road and weather conditions improve."
