Today marks 76th Anniversary of attack on Pearl Harbor

76 years ago today, America witnessed one of her darkest days when Imperial Japan launched an attack on the U.S. Navy base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The raids killed more than 2,400 people, many of those were trapped on the battleship USS Arizona.  

Then president Franklin D. Roosevelt addressed the country via radio broadcast calling the 7th "a date which will live in infamy." On that day, December 8th, war was declared on Japan and the United States entered World War II.

Today, a ceremony of remembrance will take place at the World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument located at Pearl Harbor. The ceremony will begin at 7:50 am island time with a moment of silence at 7:55 a.m., the time of the attack. The ceremony will be live streamed on Facebook, Youtube, and on pearlharborevents.com.

A Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day Ceremony scheduled for tonight at Bouligny Plaza in New Iberia has been canceled due to inclement weather. The event was scheduled for 6:30 pm.

The USS KIDD Veterans Museum in Baton Rouge will also hold a ceremony to begin at 11:55 am.
