Road to the Dome: Resilient LCA Seeks First Title

Posted: Updated:

In the Division IV Championship, Lafayette Christian will look to finish what many saw the Knights lose in one game in September.

LCA plays Ascension Catholic in the Dome. The Knights have never won a LHSAA state title, but after LCA's loss to Vermilion Catholic many thought this would not be the year.

It was the team's only loss on the scoreboard, but the loss of starting quarterback Zack Clement, for the season, echoed.

The Knights took time to re-find their offensive of rhythm, but under the control of sophomore Errol Rogers Jr. LCA heated up and beat the Screaming Eagles in a rematch in the state semifinals, booking their ticket to New Orleans.

"We knew all along, as coaches, how resilient they were and how much work and time they put in, the level of commitment," said head coach Trev Faulk. "There were in unfortunate circumstance and to be able to show everyone else their level, and to be able to prove to themselves. They drew closer, and everyone had to step up."

"I think we learned we're stronger than we thought we were," added senior cornerback Tahj Gallien. "When we lost Zack I know a lot of people on the outside maybe didn't think we'd still make it, but I'm glad they get to see that we're a strong team and one person doesn't make it, even though he was a strong asset of ours."

Kickoff of the Division IV final is set for 3:30 p.m.
