DeJuan Guillory's family seeking answers months after his death

Posted: Updated:
Evangeline Parish -

The family of DeJuan Guillory, who was shot and killed by an Evangeline Parish sheriff's deputy, is demanding answers about his death.

The shooting happened in July. Last month, State Police completed their investigation into the shooting death of Guillory, and their findings have been turned over to the District Attorney.

However, the family is running out of patience. A recent meeting they had scheduled with the District Attorney was canceled.

Family and friends of Guillory, raised their voices outside the Evangeline Parish courthouse Wednesday.

They chanted for justice and for the District Attorney to release details of the investigation into Guillory's death.

"We need answers," Guillory's mother Monica Fontenot said. "We're already suffering, but now we're being tormented."

It's been five months since Guillory's death. Family members have been going to the courthouse almost every week since then. They've held numerous vigils, memorials and protests. However, they say their calls have fallen on deaf ears.

"The District Attorney's office is doing all they can to avoid us," Fontenot said.  "They made an appointment for today to release the information from the investigation which is complete, but they canceled and we're still here."

Guillory's family says they won't stop until they get the answers they want.

"We can't grieve in peace," Guillory's sister Kiera said. "We have to fight this fight every day, from waking up to going to bed."

KATC reached out to District Attorney Trent Brignac, his secretary said Brignac "had no comment on this pending matter".

The family says they will try to meet with Brignac Monday.
