All lanes of I-49 North near I-10 have reopened to traffic. The right and center lanes were closed for several hours today as crews worked to remove an 18-wheeler that caught fire on the shoulder of the roadway at around 7 am this morning. There were heavy delays as motorists navigated around the scene using the left lane of the roadway which was opened shortly after the fire was extinguished. Currently, congestion is up to 1 mile.

Both entrance ramps from I-10 West to I-49 North and I-10 East to I-49 North were closed for a short time. Both entrance ramps are now open.

The Lafayette Fire Department responded to the fire at 7:28 am. The department says that the truck and trailer received heavy damage during the fire, but that no injuries were sustained. The truck was carrying general commodities.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
