A Eunice man is in jail today, accused of attempted first-degree murder in the beating of a child.

Cordero Anderson, 20, was located in Houston by U.S. Marshals last week, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said. He's accused in the beating of a four-year-old boy, the chief said.

The boy was brought to the hospital in November, badly beaten, the chief said. The boy's mother said she went to work and left the child in the care of her boyfriend. Anderson's mother called the child's mother to say she was taking him to the hospital, the chief said.

The child was severely injured, but was released from the hospital last week and is doing very well, the chief said.

"He was here in the office today. One of the officers bought him a bicycle," Fontenot said. "He's doing fine."

Anderson was arrested in Houston without incident, he said.
