LAFAYETTE, La. -

UPDATE: 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 4.

Mike Lotief says that his wife is doing better after suffering a heart attack.

Lotief says his wife Stefni woke up feeling better  Monday morning and is now eating. "her color is back, and so is her smile" Lotief wrote on Facebook Monday evening.

Along with mentioning the staff at the dedicated hospital staff and thanking everyone for continued prayers, Lotief mentioned that care is something that both he and his wife fought for while at UL.

...Probably why both Stef and I fought so hard for our players at UL to even get provided basic care, like an athletic trainer or get our players competent staff in the weight room with functional assessments to protect their safety and health. We take it PERSONAL, because we know it matters & we do not think it's right for our players nor our children nor our neighbors to get shortchanged b/c some administrator is lazy or they want to cut corners or they just don't care. Medical care is something we take for granted - but when you are fighting for your life, you realize that having the BEST OF THE BEST MATTERS.

Lotief ended by mentioning those who do not have the treatment they need saying the family is blessed and will continue to fight for others to have the same opportunities they have.

Lotief says that his wife should be back up and giving "marching orders" soon.

Stefni Lotief, a former Ragin' Cajuns softball coach, is receiving intensive care after suffering a heart attack on Saturday.

Her husband and former softball coach Mike Lotief released a statement via Facebook about her health and thanked those who offered support.

"Thanks AGAIN to everybody for your love and support and prayers. Stef is still in ICU and recovering slowly but surely. She is TOUGH and she is a FIGHTER. And she learned that through ATHLETICS/ SOFTBALL. Some may remember what a fierce competitor she was as a pitcher - in fact, she was UL's (USL) first ALL AMERICAN in any sport and she was an ACADEMIC ALL AMERICAN too. Smart and tough and beautiful. That's why I fell in love with her: a strong, confident, competitive woman. Last night was the "craziest" ordeal I've ever lived thru - wathcing her have a heart attack then go thru surgery and be in recovery then have another heart attack during her recovery. That ordeal went on for over 7 hours and she was a warrior - just like when she pitched and she never backed down b/c she does not know how to quit or whine or blame somebody else. Just keep fighting and find a way to win! Again, thanks to this community (OUR HOME) for standing with US - and for your love and support and prayers: Stef has GIVEN HER ENTIRE LIFE TO & FOR OTHERS - she is so selfless and has such a big, caring, loving HEART and I'm glad to report that heart is still pumping and has more love to give to this community ; but for now -- thank YOU for loving HER BACK!"

Stefni Lotief is a former softball player and coach for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She also worked in the university's athletic department.
