A teenager is dead after being ejected from his vehicle during a crash in Moss Bluff, authorities say.

The crash claimed the life of 17-year-old Clayton Ashworth of DeRidder.

At 3:30 p.m. yesterday, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident near the intersection of North Perkins Ferry Road and Tomahawk Drive.

A spokeswoman with the sheriff's office says investigation revealed Ashworth was driving north on North Perkins Ferry Rd. when he crossed the center line for unknown reasons and exited the roadway, causing his SUV to roll.

The teenage victim was then ejected from his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies say Ashworth was not wearing a seatbelt during the time of the crash.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

As mandated by state law, a toxicology report will be conducted.
