Brian Pope recall committee campaigning for signatures as deadline approaches

LAFAYETTE, La. -

The "Recall Brian Pope" campaign is in the final push of their petition drive, and the campaign has nine days left to get 5,000 more signatures of the 27,500 signatures required to make their milestone.

Campaign organizers say Lafayette City Marshal Brian Pope is preventing the release of the Attorney General's opinion concerning his supplementation to his salary with city funds.

They say he's using the funds to pay for the criminal defense of his seven felony charges.

"It's about the taxpayers of Lafayette and making sure we do what's right by them. So, getting these last signatures is important to make sure we as taxpayers are not paying for his criminal defense for crimes that he committed in an office that we elected him too," explained Chairperson Aimee Robinson.

KATC reached out to Brian Pope's Attorney, but he declined to give a statement.
