Retired army general discusses natural disaster preparation in new book

Posted: Updated:

Retired Army General Russel Honoré is offering his advice on how the military can better prepare for natural disasters.

Honoré led forces during recovery efforts for hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

His new book is called Don't Get Stuck on Stupid.

"One of the aspects is to have a stand-by federal force that's prepared to come in and works with the state National Guard. That pre-deploys and follows the storm in. We've got to stop waiting 'til after the storm arrives, watch people on television standing in water, and wait three or four days for federal troops to come in and assist the national guard," said Honoré.
