Day One for New Iberia's police chief

New Iberia, La. -

New Iberia has a new police chief. Chief Todd D'Albor is starting from scratch and wasting no time on the job.

"Today's day one so we're getting ready to build," says D'Albor.

Even on the first day, D'Albor knows what's on everyone's mind in New Iberia.

"We're going to look at the violent crimes that are happening in the city, and that's going to be the first thing to identify is who is responsible and to be able to go after the people who are committing those crimes," says D'Albor.

He's ready to jump into it, now accepting applications for roles in the new department. During his first week, he wants to lay some groundwork.

"Business owners will see me pretty immediately. Over the next week, I'm going to walk and visit business owners in the city," says D'Albor.

He'll also visit neighborhoods and schools.

"Not every neighborhood is going to face the same dynamic,  so we want to make sure we identify the concerns of each neighborhood in the city, so that way, we can go out and provide the proper service."

He wants to remind the community to use patience over the next seven months as he works to build the city's police force.
