Little Ladies Society raises money to help less fortunate families during the holidays

Posted: Updated:

During the holiday season, it's easy to get wrapped up in gifts and parties, but one group of Delcambre children are spending this Christmas season helping the less fortunate in their community.

The Little Ladies Society will be at the Delcambre Seafood & Farmers' Market on Saturday.

They will be working a booth where you can take a picture with Santa for $3, and they will also be selling their merchandise. All the proceeds will be donated to help local families during the holidays.

"And just because they're homeless doesn't mean they're not actual people. They still need help and shelter and food, too," said member Jorrie Vitar.

This group of six third grade girls started their mission in April during a sleepover.

The girls stood in front of the yard with handmade signs to collect money for the poor.

"Yeah, because you always want to listen to the golden rule: treat others the way you want to be treated," said Bella Olivier.

From there, they created the Little Ladies Society, a non-profit organization.

And these girls mean serious business

"Some people just pass by, and they just [scoffs]," Olivier says as she rolls her eyes.

Since the first fundraiser in April,  they've hosted one fundraiser a month, benefitting a number of different people and organizations.

"Woman's Shelter, Children's Shelter, and now we're working on giving the Christmas presents to the families," said member Carley Evans.

At least nine families have reached out to the Little Ladies through their Facebook page and thankful someone can lend a helping hand.

"We collect money, and then we take that money, and we buy stuff for them. And for Christmas, we're going to give them their things," said Olivier, visibly excited about the thought.

It's easy to see their passion for giving to others.

"And knowing that I'm helping people, it makes me very happy," said Olivier.
