Senior Spotlight 11/30: Crowley High School's Perry Myles Jr.

Posted: Updated:

CROWLEY, La -- "He kind of marches to his own tune. But it's the right tune," said Crowley head coach Jeptha Wall.

At just 5'8 145 lbs. Perry Myles Jr. isn't the most intimidating athlete to ever walk the halls of Crowley High School. But don't be fooled.

"He's not the biggest guy you'll ever see but his presence on the field is quietly understood....He's a competitor," Wall added. "You don't want to mess with him. He makes plays no matter what sport he's in."

Myles is three sport athlete for the Gents excelling at football basketball and track.

Last year Crowley finished runner-up at the state track meet.

"It's just memories you know?" he said, looking at his team picture hanging in Crowley's gym. "Something I can tell my kids that I was a part of one day."

Myles is shaped by his father, a former school principal. He taught him there was more to life than just sports.

"That's what I was taught ever since I was a kid, Classroom first no matter what," he said. "If I don't have the grades, than I can't do anything else in life."

Myles is a national honor society member, is active in the fellowship for Christian athletes and is an academic scholar.

On Thursdays he reads to kids at south Crowley elementary.

"I just like making kids smile," he said.

This year will be Myles last in all three sports as he hopes to attend LSU next fall.
