Changes proposed to Parks and Recreation fees

Posted: Updated:

The City-Parish Council considered the introduction of an ordinance Tuesday that would increase fees at parish parks and rec centers.

The ordinance, which if successfully introduced would be up for final approval at another meeting in the future, increases rentals for rec center rooms and buildings, as well as some fees paid at parish golf courses, pools and tennis courts.

Most of the increases are $50 to $100. For instance, an annual family pass for parish golf courses would increase from the current $2,000 to $2,100 next year and $2,200 the following year.

For individual access fees, the increases also are staggered. For instance, to swim in a pool, the fee increases from the current $2 to $3 next year and $4 the following year. To play tennis, the fee increases from the current $3.50 to $4 next year and $5 the following year. Camping at Acadiana Park will increase from the current $20 to $25 next year and $28 the following year.

Final adoption of the ordinance would be on December 19, 2017. The proposed increases would take effect January 1.

The increases are needed to pay for maintenance and operation of the buildings, according to the ordinance.
