State Police have released some details in an officer-involved shooting that happened today in Eunice.

The incident began at about noon when Eunice Police were called to a domestic disturbance at a home near the intersection of South Ninth Street and West Park Avenue, a spokesman said.

Shortly after the officers arrived in the area, they stopped a car with the suspect inside, the spokesman said. At some point during the traffic stop, the suspect allegedly brandished a firearm. The suspect was shot by at least one police officer and was transported to the hospital where he is being treated, the spokesman said.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no more information available at this time, he added.

Police tell us two schools were on lockdown, Eunice Elementary and Eunice Jr. High,  which has now been lifted.

Chief Randy Fontenot tells us they responded to a hostage situation at the corner of 9th Street and Park Street around 12:00 p.m.  Shots were fired, and the suspect was shot during the exchange.  The suspect is living, however we do not yet know the extent of injuries.  No officers were injured.

However, KATC's Dannielle Garcia spoke with a neighbor who said a bullet went through her home and just missed her kids as they were decorating their christmas tree. Thankfully no one was hurt.
