LUS to replace street lights in Lafayette

New street lights downtown have been up and running for a month now, but it's only the beginning for the City of Lafayette. 

LUS Director Terry Huval says that currently, the city of Lafayette has about 18,000 lights. All of those lights will be replaced over the next few years. 

In October, the downtown Lafayette area was the first recipient of this new LED lights, which officials say will improve visibility in the area at night while reducing electricity consumption and maintenance.

Areas of the city served by LUS will receive these new LED lights.

"The purpose of doing so is one LED Lighting is much cheaper now to purchase it's far more efficient basically we're going to save about have the electricity used for lighting on street lights," Huval said
