The St. Landry Parish School System may have some changes in its future.

Board members are considering closing some schools and modernizing others in an effort to improve the district's test scores. While this would mean students could be bused across the parish, Superintendent Patrick Jenkins said the hope is that changes could improve schools for everyone.

"Our numbers are going down in terms of enrollment, we are projected to lose about nine hundred students in the course of about five years and in addition to that as we looked at our facilities, many of them need some significant work, and it would just be better for us to have newer facilities," said Patrick Jenkins, St. Landry Parish Superintendent.

The Opelousas Daily World posted a very detailed story about the changes the board will consider. To read that story, click here
